Greedy fox and the Clever Rabbit

Once upon a time there lived a wild, greedy and crooked fox named ‘devil’ in a dense forest. He was a real devil by virtue of his character and behaviour. He harassed almost every tiny animal in that forest. The rabbit, squirrel, monkey and deer........ were all afraid of him. Nobody dared to stand infront of the fox. The little animals were annoyed.

Little ‘Tintu’ was a clever rabbit, who decided to get rid off the ‘devil’ for ever. Tintu vowed to avenge the killing of his brethren. He was aware that, he could not fight and defeat the fox directly. Tintu worked out a detailed plan to trap the fox. He knew that the fox is very much fond of sweet grapes. Apart from meat, grapes was devils favourite menu.

Apart from meat, grapes was evils favourite menu.

One day Tintu came before the fox. With reverence he said, ‘Oh dear friend, I know that you are thirsty. Why are you drinking plain water. You can have sweet ripe grapes to abate your thirst.’ The devil fox got anxious. A tiny animal offering me grapes free of cost? He didn’t feel any foul play in it. ‘Show me the fruit, I will give you also a share,’ said the fox and accompanied Tintu to the interior part of the forest.

The rabbit had other ideas in his mind. He had already laid a trap to teach the fox a lesson. Both of them rushed to the site. The huge grape tree had its branches spread out to a large space. As soon as they reached the scene, the fox jumped high towards the tree. Due to the greed for grapes, he didnot surveiled the surroundings. The fox was unable to catch the grapes. He began to fall down. He could not with stand the dried twigs and leaves beneath the tree. He was going down fathom.. The ‘devil’ could not believe his eyes. He nosedived and at last landed at the bottom of a dilapidated well. The poionous snakes in the well bit and suffocated the fox to death.

It was a preplanned trap laid by the clever ‘Tintu’. He knew that there was dilapidated well below the branches of the grape tree. There was no side wall for the well.

The devil fox had no idea about such a well in the forest. ‘Tintu’ had covered the well with dried twigs and leaves on the previous day. The presence of a well could not be felt by anybody in that circumstances. The wild, greedy fox thus met with an end it deserved. It was the cleverness of the little rabbit that worked in the end and found success.

Moral : Mere physical strength is not enough to survive on others.
