The visitors who came to the rivulet praised the swan and neglected the duck. The swan had fine feathers and good lips. This made the duck jealous. ‘When she (swan) speaks it is good music as felt by the people. Where as, my gloo, gloo...sound produced irritates them’, Sherba cursed herself. ‘The visitors used to feed the swan, where as they threw stones at me. We both belong to the same sect. We both swim on water and lay eggs. Yet, people treat us differently’ the duck felt ashamed. |

People
butcher birds like us for eating as meat, where as swan is fed and
brought up by men like divine birds. What a fate for a bird like me’,
the duck thought.
‘How can I overcome the shabby treatment? I must fight it out the indifferent attitude of people. A crow named Fena living in the tree near by advised the duck. ‘God created every living being with some strength and weakness. It differs from species to species. Look at an elephant it is strong and huge. But can it run as fast as a tiny rabbit? no, where as you eat worms and dirt, swan eats only grain and fruits’. The duck was in no mood to retract. One day she came before the swan ‘Hena’ and challenged. Can you eat worms like me? Hena remained silent. The duck continued her arrogance.‘Just see my strength’. She then caught hold of the tail of a species lying half covered under the plants. She began to swallow the tail. It was not a worm. The duck began to suffocate. The species was not an ordinary one; it was a python lying for rest. Soon the python caught hold of the duck and swallowed it at once. The swan could not do anything and remained as a mute spectator.
